Kayak and Matrix Travel Tools

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I’ve never been a fan of multi-legged trips, as I’ve never been happy with travel tools available to book them. This time, I used both Kayak and ITA’s Matrix to find my options, and I have to say that the results are miles above what’s available elsewhere…. Finally someone’s getting the idea.Though I found Kayak’s layout/interface and the flights it found to be better, these two tools will stay in my arsenal going forward (with a nod to SeatGuru, since I couldn’t live without that knowledge!).

iPhoneAlley.com and MacCast.com

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

I just wanted to take a quick minute this morning and let you all know about two publications we recently brought into the family here at BackBeat Media. iPhoneAlley.com is a site created and published by Michael Johnston, focusing directly on Apple’s latest gadget and its impact in the market. Already iPhoneAlley has posted some […]

Headed West to WWDC

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Tomorrow I head out to California for my first visit to WWDC, which runs all next week. I’ll have the opportunity while I’m there to get to speak to quite a few Mac developers, of course, and am also looking forward to attending more than a few sessions to increase my practical and background knowledge […]

Smoking Ban Passes New Hampshire House

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

I just received an e-mail from Representative Marjorie Smith that SB 42, the bill banning smoking in bars and restaurants in New Hampshire, just passed the House (it passed the Senate earlier this year). The only step left in the process is for Governor Lynch to sign it into law, and he has indicated that he will.Thank goodness!

Converging Concepts — and Fluff — in Online Advertising

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

And he’s right: it gave advertisers something tangible to hold on to and helped rebuild the trust in the market.Of course, you all know I like to remind you that tracking clicks of online ads is about as valuable as tracking the number of cars that crash into billboards, but it was *some* metric, and it did help the whole market lift itself from the ashes. And speaking of billboards: though I originally classified it as positive spin on Jupiter Media’s recent stock price decline, Alan Meckler’s post this morning about increasing Internet-focused billboards on Route 101 being a barometer of the amount of fluff in the Internet space may be true.

Welcome to Texas

So there I am, standing in the bathroom yesterday morning, brushing my teeth and preparing to take a shower, when I see this crawl up out of the sink drain:Welcome to Texas, indeed!

On The Road Again

Friday, May 11th, 2007

On top of that, I’m looking forward to getting some time with Jeff Questad, another sales rep of ours based in Austin.I have a few other business matters to attend to down there, and am looking forward to some personal time catching up with my old friend, Lee Robin, of Computer NERDZ! I haven’t seen Lee in probably 4 or 5 years, and am eagerly looking forward to visiting with him and his family.More either from the road or once I’m back in New Hampshire, I’m sure.

DealsOnTheWeb.com’s Persistent Search

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

I love it when I’m truly able to transcend my involvement/interest in a site we own and can simply use it the way it was intended. That happened yesterday with our DealsOnTheWeb.com site. The kids’ old (and initially free!) Windows machine is showing its age in that it’s simply not fast enough to keep up […]

Traveling Woes

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

The agent (again) confirmed that someone with a name not dissimilar to mine is on a watchlist, and that’s causing all these problems.Let’s hope the new DHS TRIP program can resolve this once and for all, otherwise I might want to go visit the DHS in person to fix it. It’s bad enough having to experience this, it’s worse when your children have to watch you get “screened” (as they did this time) and it’s unacceptable when your pre-school children are forced to go through it themselves (as happened the last time).
