Intel Inside a Mac? Don’t worry ’bout a thing…
Well, though I mentioned it briefly (and dismissed it even faster) recently, it seems like today may be the day that we all hear that our future Macs will have the “Intel Inside” warning stickers pasted on them. And as I’ve been thinking about it more, I can’t say that it’s necessarily a bad thing. I mean, does a brand name really matter when you’re talking about processors? The industry has certainly spent a lot of their marketing dollars betting that the answer to that question is “yes,” but in the end, who cares? I mean, do any of you know what brand of microprocessor runs your car? Would it make a difference to you if you found out that both BMW and Hyundai used the same brand chips in their cars (I don’t know that they do, but just consider it for a moment)? Probably not.
Now, given all the marketing muscle that’s been put behind the brand (and the backlash surrounding it), Apple’s rumored switch is definitely going to require some deft marketing maneuvers. Never fear — they’ve been quite successful with such things in the past (or, at least they have been when Jobs has been at the helm). Plus they’ll have all of their Mac fanatics singing their “Apple can do no wrong” praises ad nauseum.
And if it gets me a faster PowerBook, well, frankly, that’s all I care about. 🙂
“Don’t worry ’bout a thing, ‘Cause every little thing is gonna be alright, mon.”
